After having a bad reaction to her 1 yr. shots, Addison got to go to the Emergency room last Wednesday. For several days, Addison had a high fever, but we decided to take her in when it kept going up to 104-105 and she began refusing to drink/eat. We first went to urgent care, but since she had been refusing liquids for 5 hrs. they wanted us to go straight to the hospital.
We returned to Mercy, since that is where Addison was born and we were really happy with our experience with the staff there. We got in really quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. (I remember sitting in the waiting room a very long time as a child. . . and wondering why they called it an "emergency" room) :)
In the end, they gave Addison A LOT of tylenol and they attempted 4 times to put in an I.V., but they ended up giving up. My mom and I asked them about having one of the neonatal staff try and put in the I.V., but that didn't happen. They had us go home to attempt giving her liquids and said to bring her back if she kept refusing.
Within 24 hrs., Addison starting drinking fluids on her own again. That was a great relief, as it was not very fun having to force liquids down her. Addison is pretty much 100% now. She does have some bruising from the I.V.'s, but her appetite is back and the fever has been gone since Saturday. We really appreciate everyone's prayers for her and all the help/advice. It is very scary when it's your first baby and you're trying to figure out how to handle a very sick baby!
